Printable June Calendar

I know we're a few days into June, but if you're like me it takes a day or two to remember the month has changed.  So, for me this printable is right on schedule.

Nothing fancy, just a simple calendar for you to print out, and keep track of what day it is.  Is it just me, or does anyone else have a really hard time remembering what day of the week it is once summer hits?  The days just seem to run together.  I've printed out a few copies of this calendar and have put them in a few different places to aid my forgetfulness.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you found a little something worth your time.

Summer Playlist {On Spotify}

We are officially on summer vacation at our house!  And summer, for me, is one of those times of year that absolutely requires a playlist!

It's no secret I'm a big fan of music.  If you've been here at Blissful Roots a few times before, you've probably come across one or two of my playlists.  I simply love what music does.  It lifts your spirits, creates memories, and adds an extra touch to any atmosphere.

Summer Playlist @ Blissful Roots

Growing up in a small town, summer days and nights are some of my most fond memories.  I grew up on country music, (hence all the country songs in my playlist) and still to this day I can't help but feel like I need a little Brad Paisley playing in the background during the bright, carefree days and long starry nights of summer.

As I mentioned, I do have mostly country songs in my playlist, but I did include a bit of Olaf from 'Frozen', Coldplay, and In The Summertime by Mungo Jerry to mix things up a bit.  And if I had to pick a favorite right now, it would be Brad Paisley's Beat This Summer for sure!  I heard it last year, and listened to it way too many times last summer (but never got sick of it).  Now that summer's here again, I've got that song playing over and over again.  It perfectly captures the essence of summer for me.
So, even if you're not a country music fan and don't want to try out the playlist, you have to give this one a shot for sure!

What are your favorite summertime tunes?

Garden Books for Kids {@ Or So She Says}

Happy Tuesday to you all!  We are finally experiencing some sunshine here in Utah.  It seems like the past few weeks have been nothing but cold, wind, clouds, and rain.  But that kind of weather just makes you appreciate the sunshine and warmth that much more!

Garden Books for Kids @ Blissful Roots

Today I'm over at Or So She Says with a list of our favorite children's books for the garden.  Does summertime mean garden time at your house?  It sure does for us.  I look forward to it every year, and so do my boys.  I can't count the benefits of gardening together as a family.  They're countless!!  And I always love to build upon the activities we're doing with great books.  So, stop by and visit (click here to do so) to check out our list.

And just because I can't get enough of them, here's a few pictures of life in the garden.  Some of my most cherished memories comes from here!

There's Magic in the Dirt {Printable}

This is one of my all-time favorite pictures of my twins.  It was taken five years ago in our very first family garden.  These two little guys LOVED this garden!  They were the best garden tenders you'd ever seen.  They weeded, watered picked peppers (and tried so, so hard to like them), and even cried a bit when the neighbor's cat wouldn't eat the cherry tomatoes they were trying to share with it.  So many priceless memories!

 At my father-in-law's studio here in Midway there are some great signs in their gift department.  There was a sign (click here to see it) several years ago that said, "Garden:  there's magic in the dirt!".  I've always wanted a copy of it to hang in my house during the summer months, because it fits this picture of my twins so perfectly, and gardening is magical to me.  So, I decided to make it my printable for today.
We don't have our own garden this year, but our in-law's garden is bigger than we'd ever have ourselves.  My twins are older now and the magic in the dirt has slightly faded for them (I'm hoping it will return for them someday like it has for me), but lucky for me, I still have a three-year-old who is smitten by the magic of the dirt.  Every new sprout, blossom, veggie, even weed is magical!

What magic has your dirt produced this summer?  So far, my boys have shelled and devoured lots of peas, and the beets are ready to harvest.  There's a lot more on the way, and I  cannot wait!

Summertime Printable

I know I just did a summertime printable a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted something summertime-ish for one of my memory boards I'm working on.  I have a lot of red, white, and blue things for my July memory board, but I needed something more neutral for June and August.

I'm going to print this out at about 50% of its original size and mount it on card stock (like I did with most of my quotes on this memory board), but you could print it as is and frame it, or I'm sure you could come up with some other creative way to use it.

Kool-Aid Slushie

Did you ever have cups with the Kool-Aid guy's face on them when you were  younger?  We did, and I remember loving when my mom made this slushie for us to drink in those cups.  Good memories!

Kool-Aid Slushie from Blissful Roots

I don't have those cups for my boys, but we still love making the slushie.  My husband is actually the biggest Kool-Aid fan at our house.  We don't ever drink it until summer hits.  The good thing about this slush is that it only calls for 3/4 cup sugar instead of a whole cup (that's good, right?  I'll keep telling myself it is).

You can use any flavor of Kool-Aid for this.  We used tropical punch for the red one in the picture, and it's one of my favorites!  There's a new watermelon flavor that Kool-Aid makes, and it's my husband's new favorite.  It's fun to experiment with the flavors.  You could even try mixing a couple.

Oh, What Do You Do In The Summertime? {Printable}

There's a song the young primary kids sing at our church.  It's called Oh, What Do You Do In The Summertime?  I remember singing it when I was little, and it always makes me think of long, carefree summer days.

The song talks about counting the stars in the sky,  fishing in streams, swimming, tree climbing, cloud watching, parades, lemonade, all the classic summertime activities.

Our Summer Bucket List

My boys and I made a summer bucket list (at least half of a bucket list, we have more to add) and I think it would be fun to take pictures of all our activities, print them out, hang them clothesline style on a wall, and then put the Oh, What Do You Do In The Summertime? printable above it (I'll try and post a picture of it when I get it all set up).

What are your favorite things to do in the summertime?
